| Opmerkingen |
The Mandats Territoriaux were launched in March 1796 as a direct replacement for the collapsed Assignats, backed by nationalized lands seized from the Church and the aristocracy. The experiment failed almost immediately — within weeks of issue, Mandats were trading at a fraction of face value, and by February 1797 they were formally demonetized, giving the series an active lifespan of under a year.
The 25 Francs denomination circulated in a period of extreme monetary chaos, and most examples absorbed heavy use before the currency's rapid collapse. Surviving notes frequently show the manuscript cancellations applied during demonetization.
