| Reverse description | A naturalistic, high-relief depiction of a pride of lions resting on a rocky outcrop occupies the central field, showing one adult lioness seated prominently at centre flanked by two additional lionesses and two cubs in the foreground, all rendered in fine detail against a subtly graduated background. The inscription THE LION arcs along the upper border. Along the lower periphery, the legend WORLD'S WILDLIFE is inscribed within a raised banner, interrupted at the bottom centre by a small globe motif highlighting the African continent. The overall composition conveys a serene wildlife scene executed in a photorealistic engraving style. |

The Democratic Republic of the Congo has issued collector gold under its own authority since the late 1990s, primarily through licensing arrangements with European minting houses — most commonly the Bavarian State Mint and B.H. Mayer's Kunstprägeanstalt. These contracts give the DRC nominal issuing authority while the actual production, distribution, and retail occur entirely outside the country. The 7.775g format is a deliberate quarter-ounce equivalent, priced to slot into the bullion-collector market between fractional sovereigns and half-ounce pieces.
KM#418 is a recent assignment; the series has accumulated references rapidly as new wildlife themes are licensed annually.
