| Obverse description | The obverse is struck in the form of a hot air balloon and finished in antiqued silver. At center, a raised circular cartouche bears the coat of arms of Burundi — featuring a shield with a lion's head, flanked by crossed spears, and supported by ornamental scrollwork — surrounded by the circular legend in Latin and Kirundi. Below the arms, the denominations and specifications '2 OZ', '25 FRANCS', and 'Ag 999' are inscribed in the field. The balloon envelope is adorned with fleur-de-lis and foliate scrollwork along the upper section, a reticulated basket rendered in relief below, and the date '2023' appears on a banner at the base of the gondola. |

Burundi has no meaningful numismatic tradition tied to aviation or ballooning — this is a frankly commercial issue produced for the international collector market, a practice the Bank of the Republic of Burundi has leaned into heavily since the 2010s. The country itself imports nearly all its coinage and outsources production to private mints in Europe.
KM#55 places this among a string of similarly themed Burundian issues that bear little relationship to national history. The 62.2g weight is the standard two-troy-ounce format favored by the novelty bullion segment.
