25 Francs Guinéens

Guinea's 1987 coinage came during a period of acute economic disorder following the death of Sékou Touré in 1984 and the subsequent military takeover by Lansana Conté. The transition government inherited a currency, the syli, that had been rendered nearly worthless by decades of mismanagement and isolation from the franc zone. The reintroduction of the Guinean franc that same year — replacing the syli at par after a brief monetary reset — is the direct reason this denomination exists at all.
