Aanvullende informatie

Ivory Coast struck this issue in 1966 as part of a brief series of gold commemoratives produced in the years immediately following independence from France in 1960. Houphouët-Boigny, who had served in the French National Assembly before becoming the country's first president, maintained unusually close economic and political ties with Paris — a posture critics called "Françafrique" — and the decision to denominate prestige coinage in CFA francs rather than a sovereign currency reflected that alignment precisely.

The series was struck in limited quantities for collectors and diplomatic presentation rather than circulation. Surviving examples in original condition are scarcer than mintage figures alone suggest.
