The Democratic Republic of Congo has no meaningful domestic gold coin tradition, but since the early 2000s the Banque Centrale has issued a steady stream of bullion and collector pieces aimed squarely at the international market. This piece is part of that commercial program — the denomination is nominal, the real value is in the metal content, and it will not circulate in Kinshasa.
The KM#375 reference places it within a catalog of Congolese issues that expanded rapidly after 2010 as mint contractors in Europe pitched wildlife-themed gold fractionals to central banks across sub-Saharan Africa seeking royalty revenue.
