| Additional information |
Mali's 1976 aluminum coinage was struck during a period of acute monetary strain following the country's short-lived experiment with its own currency after breaking from the West African franc zone in 1962. The Malian franc collapsed badly enough that Mali was readmitted to the CFA franc zone in 1984, making the entire independent coinage series — including this piece — effectively obsolete within a decade of issue.
