Opmerkingen

The Banque de la Guadeloupe turned to E. A. Wright in Philadelphia after wartime conditions severed reliable access to French metropolitan printers. Wright was primarily a commercial engraving house — securities, bonds, diplomas — rather than a specialist currency printer, which makes this commission unusual. The firm's banknote output was always limited, and Guadeloupe issues rank among the more obscure entries in their production history.

By 1942, Guadeloupe had shifted its allegiance from Vichy to Free France following the arrival of Henri Hoppenot as High Commissioner — a political transition that created administrative uncertainty around currency authorization and signatures. The dual "Directeur" signing arrangement reflects the bank's local governance structure during that unstable period.
