| Reverse description | A composite central device juxtaposes two contrasting cultural motifs: on the left, a stylized aboriginal petroglyph stone bearing incised curvilinear designs, and on the right, an open Spanish folding fan with radiating ribs, the two elements partially overlapping to symbolize the meeting of indigenous and European traditions. The circumferential legend 'TRADITION WITH VISION' arcs across the upper field, while the commemorative dates '1499 - 1999' appear in the lower field, flanked by small decorative stars, marking the 500th anniversary of the discovery of Aruba. |

Aruba's commemorative coinage program of the 1990s was tied directly to the island's status as a separate constituent country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands — a status it has held since 1986, when it was granted its own currency and central bank after breaking from the Netherlands Antilles. The 25 florin denomination was reserved for these special issues rather than everyday commerce.
KM#18 marks the quincentennial of European contact with the island, traditionally dated to 1499 when Spanish explorers under Alonso de Ojeda made landfall.
