Aruba separated from the Netherlands Antilles in 1986 under a Status Aparte arrangement — a transition meant to be temporary, with full independence originally scheduled for 1996, a plan that was quietly abandoned after it became clear the island had little appetite for it. The florin, introduced the same year as separation, has been a currency without a destination ever since, still pegged at 1.79 to the US dollar. Enschedé's involvement is unremarkable for Dutch Caribbean issues, but Evelino Fingal's credit as designer is the local detail that distinguishes this series from generic colonial-era commissions.
