| Additional information |
Bahrain's first decimal coinage was introduced in 1965 under Emir Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, replacing the Gulf rupee — a currency administered by the Reserve Bank of India that had circulated across the Gulf states. The shift was partly precipitated by India's devaluation pressure on the rupee and a broader Gulf desire for monetary independence from New Delhi's fiscal decisions.
The two-year window of this issue reflects the brief transitional period before the series was refined and restruck in subsequent years.
