The Libertas Americana medal was Benjamin Franklin's project — he designed it himself in Paris in 1782 and had Augustin Dupré execute the dies, commissioning the original bronzes as diplomatic gifts to French ministers. Franklin saw it as a direct argument that American liberty had been born under French protection. The Monnaie de Paris has returned to this source material repeatedly for bullion and collector issues.
KM#3254 is one of several modern restrikes drawing on Dupré's original composition, here upscaled to a two-ounce format.
