This issue commemorates Luxembourg's role in hosting the Court of Justice of the European Communities, established in Luxembourg City under the 1957 Treaty of Rome. Henri I had ascended the Grand Ducal throne only the previous year, following the abdication of his father Jean, making this among the earliest commemorative issues of his reign.
