Issued to mark the twenty-fifth anniversary of German reunification, this coin was part of the Bundesbank's broader commemorative program that ran alongside official state ceremonies in October 2015. The 25-euro denomination itself is an oddity in German federal coinage — neither a standard collector face value nor a circulation denomination — introduced specifically to sit outside the euro coin series proper while still carrying legal tender status.
