| 背面描述 | The reverse is fully colored in the style of an illuminated medieval manuscript stamp vignette, depicting Saint Thomas Aquinas in three-quarter view, vested in the black and white habit of the Dominican Order. The saint holds an open book in his left hand and a quill in his right, with a radiant sunburst emblem upon his chest symbolizing his epithet Doctor Angelicus; a white dove hovers above his shoulder. To his right, a golden processional cross is depicted alongside adoring angelic figures rendered in polychrome enamel-style coloring. The Latin inscription BENE SCRIPSISTI DE ME THOMA — the divine approbation of his writings — appears on a vertical scroll within the scene. The legends CITTA' DEL VATICANO, S. TOMMASO D'AQUINO, 25 EURO, and the commemorative dates 1274–2024 frame the composition, with the Rome mint mark R visible at the base. |

Issued under Pope Francis, this 2024 commemorative marks the 750th anniversary of the death of Thomas Aquinas, who died in March 1274 at the Cistercian monastery of Fossanova while traveling to the Second Council of Lyon. Aquinas had been summoned by Gregory X personally — the pope wanted his theological weight at a council aimed at reuniting the Latin and Greek churches. He never arrived.
The rectangular format — 35 x 50 mm — places this squarely in the Vatican's modern series of shaped commemoratives, a format the mint has used selectively for high-denomination issues since the early 2000s.
