| Obverse description | The heraldic arms of the Central Bank of Malta occupy the central field, depicted in high relief with two armoured knights as supporters, each bearing a weapon, flanking a quartered shield surmounted by a mural crown and laurel wreath. A scroll below the shield bears the motto FIDUCIA FORTIS and the founding year 1968. The entire armorial design is enclosed within a rope border, with a Maltese cross in the left and right fields. The legend CENTRAL BANK OF MALTA arcs along the upper border, and the denomination 25 CENTS appears in the lower field. |

Pope Francis visited Malta in April 2022 — the first papal visit to the island since John Paul II came twice, in 1990 and 2001. The 2022 visit was notably brief, a single day, and centered on meetings with migrants at the Hal Far detention center, a deliberately pointed itinerary given Malta's fraught position on Mediterranean migration routes.
