| 背面描述 | The reverse presents a truncated bareheaded effigy of Queen Wilhelmina facing left, rendered in high relief with finely detailed wavy hair. Behind the portrait, a low-relief scene depicts celebrating crowds of figures with raised arms and flags, evoking the liberation of the Netherlands in 1945. Flanking the effigy on both sides, a typographic multi-line inscription reads BEVRIJDING BETEKENT HET HERLEVEN VAN ALLE VRIJHEDEN, arranged in a bold, decorative lettering style. The facsimile signature Wilhelmina appears beneath the bust in the lower field. |

The Netherlands marked the fiftieth anniversary of its liberation from German occupation — not the fortieth, despite what the coin's name suggests — in 1995. Liberation came in May 1945, making this a half-century commemoration. The ECU itself never circulated as legal tender in the Netherlands; these silver issues were struck as collector pieces during the EU's transitional currency period, before the guilder gave way to the euro.
