Armenia's first banknote series, introduced in November 1993, replaced the Russian ruble following independence — but the transition was abrupt enough that the dram launched before most of the population had any practical familiarity with it. Giesecke & Devrient in Leipzig handled the entire inaugural series, a logical choice given the firm's long relationship with post-Soviet states navigating rapid currency changeovers.
The 25 Dram sat at the lower-middle of the founding series and circulated heavily in the chaotic early months of the Armenian economy, when inflation was severe and purchasing power shifted almost weekly.
