Issued to mark the 50th anniversary of the United Nations, this coin was part of a coordinated wave of commemoratives struck by dozens of member states in 1995 — Jamaica among them. The UN's founding in San Francisco that October 1945 had particular resonance for small island nations; Jamaica, independent only since 1962, joined the organization that same year and has relied heavily on UN frameworks for trade dispute arbitration and development financing.
The .925 silver specification and 28.28g weight place it squarely in the Crown-sized commemorative format then standard across Commonwealth mints, with blanks almost certainly supplied through the Royal Mint's network rather than struck domestically.
