Obverse description The quartered shield of the Jamaican coat of arms occupies the central field, supported by two Taíno figures standing at either side, each rendered in fine relief. A crocodile passant surmounts the helm above the shield, and a scroll beneath bears the national motto. The legend JAMAICA arcs across the upper periphery, with the date 1983 positioned in the lower field below the arms.
