Liberia's gold miniature series of the mid-2000s was produced primarily for the collector market, with no meaningful domestic circulation — Liberia's actual monetary system relied on U.S. dollars and low-denomination Liberian coins during this period of post-civil war reconstruction. These fractional gold pieces were contract-struck abroad and sold through international coin dealers, with Liberia's nominal authority lending legal-tender status to what are functionally bullion collectibles.
