Hutt River Province — the self-declared micronation in Western Australia founded by Leonard Casley in 1970 after a dispute with the state government over wheat quotas — issued a remarkable volume of numismatic material throughout the 1980s and 1990s, much of it targeting the commemorative collector market. This piece appeared in 1991, timed to the Gulf War, when Patriot missile batteries received intense international press coverage following their widely publicized — and later heavily disputed — interception claims against Iraqi Scud missiles during Operation Desert Storm.
