Liberia's late-1990s and early-2000s gold miniature program was a commercial licensing operation aimed squarely at the collector market, with virtually no domestic circulation intended. This piece belongs to a series of small-denomination "tribute" issues produced under contract by foreign minting facilities — the Central Bank lending its issuing authority while bearing little relationship to actual Liberian monetary policy.
Caesar was assassinated on the Ides of March, 44 BC, having been declared dictator perpetuo only weeks earlier.
