Obverse description The sixth and final effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, as designed by Jody Clark, dominates the central field, depicting the monarch in right-facing profile wearing the George IV State Diadem and a pearl necklace with drop earrings. The legend ELIZABETH II 1952-2022 arcs above the effigy, flanked by a central dot, while AUSTRALIA 2023 appears to the right and the denomination 25 DOLLARS curves along the lower arc. The engraver's initials JC appear in small relief below the portrait. The inner field is surrounded by an elaborate engine-turned guilloche border of crosshatched diamond pattern, with the words PURE AUSTRALIAN GOLD inscribed prominently across the upper outer border in raised lettering.

Reverse description The reverse presents a finely detailed, high-relief kangaroo standing upright on rocky ground, adapted from the iconography of the historic 1853 Port Phillip Pattern sovereign. To the left of the central design, the specifications 1/4 oz .9999 Au are inscribed in the field, while a circled numeral 1 appears to the right of the kangaroo, referencing the original sovereign denomination. The commemorative dates 1853 - 2023 are inscribed in the lower central field, marking the 170th anniversary of the Port Phillip Patterns. The legends PORT PHILLIP arc across the upper border and AUSTRALIA curves prominently along the lower border, both set against the same intricate guilloche diamond-pattern border that frames the entire design.
