Aanvullende informatie

USS Tautog (SS-199) was a Tambor-class submarine credited with sinking more Japanese vessels than any other U.S. submarine during World War II — 26 confirmed ships by war's end. She was also present at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, and shot down a Japanese aircraft during the attack, one of the few submarines to engage the enemy that morning.

The Solomon Islands issued numerous silver rounds under this format throughout the 2000s, largely marketed to collectors rather than circulated. Tautog's record remains disputed by some historians who credit Tench-class boats with higher tonnage, but her kill count by number of vessels has never been seriously challenged.
