Additional information

Issued under the Royal Canadian Mint's ongoing licensed pop-culture program, this piece commemorates the 35th anniversary of Trivial Pursuit — a board game invented by two Canadian journalists, Scott Abbott and Chris Haney, in Montreal in 1979 on a bet that they could design a better trivia game than what was available. The game went commercial in 1982 and became one of the fastest-selling board games in history.

The Mint has issued several such novelty collector pieces in this vein, aimed squarely at the gift market rather than traditional numismatic collectors.
