Cook Islands has issued commemorative silver rounds under its own authority since the 1970s, a legacy of its self-governing status in free association with New Zealand — which itself retains no veto over the islands' coinage program. This piece belongs to a wave of large-format royal-themed issues that flooded the collector market in the early 2010s, produced almost entirely for export to European and North American buyers with no meaningful connection to the Pacific.
