| Reverse description | The reverse face of the cube presents a circular cartouche with matching ornate scrollwork framing a finely detailed portrait bust of Pope John Paul II facing slightly left, rendered in high relief with an antiqued patina accentuating the sculptural depth. The name IOANNES PAULUS II appears below the portrait within the cartouche. Surrounding the cartouche, the Latin Vulgate verse OMNIA NUDA ET APERTA SUNT ANTE OCULOS EIUS (Hebrews 4:13) runs continuously around the circular border. Above the cartouche, the Polish dedication ŚWIĘTY JAN PAWEŁ II and the Latin SANCTUS IOANNES PAULUS II are inscribed on the flat field. The four hinged side panels of the cube unfold to reveal Gothic rose window tracery designs in relief, referencing the ecclesiastical setting of the pontificate. |
