Obverse description The obverse features the third definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, modelled by Raphael Maklouf, depicted as a right-facing crowned bust wearing a necklace and earring. The Queen wears the George IV State Diadem, rendered in fine detail. The legend 'ELIZABETH II' curves along the left field and 'SOLOMON ISLANDS' along the right, with the date '1991' positioned in the lower exergue. The portrait is set against a deeply mirrored proof field characteristic of a high-relief gold striking.

Additional information

Issued on the fiftieth anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, this coin was produced by a Pacific nation that had itself been devastated by the Pacific War — the Solomon Islands were the site of some of the most brutal land and naval combat of the entire conflict, including the Guadalcanal campaign of 1942–43. The choice of a Pearl Harbor theme by the Central Bank reflects the broader commemorative coin market of the early 1990s rather than any particular local historical connection to Hawaii.
