Kremnica, in what is now central Slovakia, has operated continuously as a mint since 1328 — one of the longest unbroken minting histories in Europe. The Slovak Mint there has increasingly attracted Pacific island issuing authorities seeking prestige bullion vehicles, with Niue among the most prolific. These arrangements are straightforward fiscal relationships: Niue licenses its sovereignty for legal tender status while the mint retains production and distribution rights.
.986 fineness is the traditional Kremnica standard, slightly above the .9999 now common among major sovereign mints.
