Additional information

The Imperial Amazon parrot (*Amazona imperialis*) is endemic to Dominica and by the early 1990s had been reduced to somewhere between 60 and 250 individuals in the wild, making it one of the rarest parrots on earth. The BVI issued this coin amid a broader Caribbean conservation awareness push that followed CITES listings and regional habitat-loss surveys. Whether the proceeds materially supported any conservation program is less clear than the marketing implied.
