The Dragon Boat Festival commemorative program at the Royal Canadian Mint has produced numerous collector issues targeting both the domestic Chinese-Canadian community and overseas markets, a commercial strategy the RCM pursued aggressively through the 2010s with its colored silver series. These pieces were struck in relatively small, controlled mintages and sold directly through the RCM's retail channels rather than through circulation — meaning essentially every surviving example remains in the condition it left the mint.
The .9999 fine silver specification places this above the more common .999 standard, a distinction the RCM began emphasizing across its premium collector output around this period.
