The Curtiss JN-4 "Jenny" earned its place in philatelic and numismatic mythology largely through the 1918 U.S. airmail stamp invert error, in which a small pane of 100 stamps was sold with the biplane printed upside-down. That single sheet of 24-cent stamps became one of the most pursued items in American collecting history. Solomon Islands issued this commemorative as part of a broader wave of Pacific-nation silver crowns in the early 2000s targeting the international collector market rather than domestic circulation.
