Obverse description The national arms of Barbados occupies the central field, featuring a shield quartered with two bearded fig trees and a Pride of Barbados flower, supported by a dolphin to the left and a pelican to the right, both rendered in high relief. Above the shield, a helmet with mantling supports an arm holding two crossed sugar cane stalks as the crest. A scroll below the shield bears the national motto PRIDE AND INDUSTRY. The date 1983 is divided across the field, flanked by the Barbadian trident symbol, with the legend BARBADOS inscribed prominently along the lower periphery within a beaded border.
