| Obverse description | The arms of Barbados occupy the central field, depicting a shield quartered with bearded fig tree motifs, supported on the dexter side by a dolphin and on the sinister side by a pelican, both rendered in high relief. Above the shield, a helmet and mantling support a hand grasping two crossed sugar cane stalks as crest. A scroll beneath the shield bears the national motto in two parts. The country name BARBADOS arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination TWENTY FIVE DOLLARS curves along the lower periphery, all enclosed within a beaded border. |

Issued to mark the 30th anniversary of Barbados's independence, declared on November 30, 1966, when the island severed its constitutional ties with Britain while retaining Elizabeth II as head of state. The Central Bank of Barbados was itself only established in 1972, giving it a relatively short institutional history by the time this coin was produced.
