The Cayman Islands Monetary Authority was established in 1997, taking over currency functions from the Currency Board that had operated since 1972. This note, issued in 1998, falls in the transition period immediately following that institutional change — the single signature format reflects an administrative arrangement during the authority's early operational phase before additional signatory requirements were formalized in later series.
De La Rue's involvement with Cayman Islands currency goes back to the earliest issues; their grip on small British Overseas Territory contracts during this period was near-total.
