Bud Spencer (Carlo Pedersoli) and Terence Hill (Mario Girotti) made roughly 20 films together between 1967 and 1994, generating enormous box office returns across Western Europe — particularly in West Germany, where their spaghetti westerns and action comedies drew audiences that rivaled Hollywood blockbusters. The Cook Islands have issued commemorative gold in this format under licensing arrangements for decades, typically targeting the European collector market rather than any domestic circulation purpose.
Spencer died in June 2016. This issue appeared four years later.
