| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse features the fourth-generation effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Susanna Blunt, depicting the monarch in right-facing portrait at approximately 77 years of age, bare-headed and uncrowned, wearing a necklace and drop earrings. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs above the effigy, while CANADA and the date 2007 appear in the lower field, with VANCOUVER 2010 completing the inscriptions in reference to the upcoming Olympic Games. The portrait is rendered in fine detail with restrained relief, consistent with standard Royal Canadian Mint commemorative practice. |

One of five coins released by the Royal Canadian Mint in 2007 under its Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games licensing agreement, this piece was issued three years ahead of the Games as part of a sustained collector program designed to fund promotional commitments. Biathlon — a sport Canada has historically underperformed in at the Olympic level relative to Scandinavian and German competitors — was an unusual choice to headline an early release.
