Beschrijving keerzijde Two African elephants — a large adult and a juvenile calf — depicted in animated stride across a savannah landscape, both with trunks raised, rendered in highly detailed sculptural relief. A massive, textured baobab tree trunk rises dramatically along the left margin, providing compositional depth. The ground plane features scattered rocks, dried brush, and sparse grasses, evoking the African bush with naturalistic precision. The denomination $25 is inscribed in the upper field above the composition, while the fineness inscription .925 STERLING appears in small lettering at the lower left of the design.

Aanvullende informatie

The British Virgin Islands has no meaningful historical or economic connection to African elephants — this is a frankly commercial issue, produced for the collector market at a moment when Commonwealth territories were competing aggressively for bullion and commemorative buyers. The 1990s saw dozens of such topical wildlife releases from BVI, Niue, and similar jurisdictions, most struck at outside mints on contract.

KM#143 is a low-mintage proof-only issue. Its appeal, such as it is, rests entirely on the subject matter rather than any numismatic significance tied to the issuer.
