Australia's gold kangaroo series has run continuously since 1987, making it one of the longer-lived modern bullion programs. Unlike many sovereign bullion issues, Perth Mint changes the reverse design annually — a deliberate policy introduced to encourage collector demand alongside investment buying. The 6th portrait of Elizabeth II, by sculptor Jody Clark, was adopted by Australia in 2019 and appears on only a handful of annual issues before her death in September 2022 made it a transitional type.
