The Hand of Faith nugget — found in 1980 near Kingower, Victoria, by Kevin Hillier using a metal detector — remains the largest gold nugget ever recovered by that method, weighing just over 27 kilograms. Its sale to the Golden Nugget Casino in Las Vegas for approximately $1 million USD that same year marked the end of Australia's most celebrated modern gold find.
