Australia's four-nines gold bullion program, administered by the Perth Mint rather than the Royal Australian Mint, operates under a Western Australian government guarantee — an unusual arrangement rooted in the fact that the Perth Mint predates Federation itself, having been established in 1899 as a branch of the British Royal Mint. That colonial origin means it never fell under Commonwealth jurisdiction, giving it a legally distinct status no other Australian mint shares.
The 2007 date places this piece in the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait era, his effigy having replaced Raphael Maklouf's in 1998 for Australian coinage.
