| Beschrijving keerzijde | A frontal effigy of Pope Benedict XVI is depicted at center in full papal vestments, his arms raised and outstretched in a gesture of blessing, wearing an ornate embroidered cope. Behind him, the facade and dome of St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City are rendered in detailed relief, flanked by the colonnades of St. Peter's Square. The Latin proclamation HABEMUS PAPAM arcs across the upper legend, with the date of election 19-04-2005 inscribed immediately below. The papal name BENEDICTUS XVI appears in the lower exergue. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Benedict XVI was elected on April 19, 2005, following the death of John Paul II — the first German pope since Adrian VI in the sixteenth century. Liberia has no historical or geographic connection to the Vatican; these small-denomination gold issues were produced almost exclusively for the collector export market, a revenue strategy the National Bank pursued aggressively through the early 2000s. At 1.24 grams, the gold content is negligible, placing the coin's value firmly in commemorative rather than bullion territory.
