Obverse description The complete Arms of Jamaica displayed at centre, featuring a quartered shield bearing five golden pineapples, supported by two Taíno figures — a female supporter at left holding fruit and a male supporter at right holding a spear — with a crocodile as crest above ornate mantling. A scroll below the shield bears the national motto 'OUT OF MANY, ONE PEOPLE'. The country name 'JAMAICA' arcs along the upper legend, while 'TWENTY-FIVE DOLLARS' appears along the lower field. The Valcambi mint mark (CHI) is visible in the lower left field.

The commemorative legend marks the 500th anniversary of Columbus's landfall in Jamaica, with dates spanning 1494 to 1994 inscribed prominently. The year of issue, 1991, appears in the lower legend alongside the names 'COLUMBUS', 'ISABELLA', and 'JAMAICA'.

Additional information

This piece commemorates the quincentennial of Columbus's 1492 voyage, part of a wave of Caribbean commemorative programs timed to the 1992 anniversary. Jamaica's participation carried particular historical irony — Columbus landed on the island in 1494, claimed it for the Spanish crown, and the indigenous Taíno population was effectively extinct within decades of contact. The Bank of Jamaica issued several denominations in this series, with the silver strikes intended primarily for the collector market rather than circulation.

Schön 110 confirms the type; KM#150 cross-references cleanly without recorded die varieties of note.
