Additional information

Puccini died in Brussels in November 1924, mid-surgery for throat cancer, leaving Turandot unfinished at the final duet. The 2024 centenary of his death prompted a wave of commemorative issues across multiple mints, of which this Niuean gold piece is one. Niue has no meaningful connection to Puccini or Italian operatic history — the island's role here is purely jurisdictional, providing a legal issuing framework for a coin almost certainly produced by a European or Australian refining house on behalf of a private distributor.
