Additional information

The "Australian Nugget" series dates to 1986, when the Perth Mint launched it specifically to compete with the South African Krugerrand and Canadian Maple Leaf in the international bullion market. It was later rebranded as the "Kangaroo" series for most bullion issues, but the Nugget name persisted on select proof and collector lines. The gilding here — a rose gold overlay on .9999 fine yellow gold — is a production technique Perth has refined over decades, though it raises the eyebrow of purists who note the underlying metal purity and the overlay exist in some tension as a unified value proposition.
