The Australian Kookaburra gold series has run continuously since 1986, with the silver version predating it slightly — an unusually long-lived bullion program by any measure. Charles III's effigy, sculpted by portrait artist Dominic Fagan, began appearing on Australian coinage in 2023 following the accession. This 2026 proof date places it squarely in the early years of that first portrait's run, before any redesign cycle would typically be considered.
