Kuwait's Liberation Day commemoratives have been issued periodically since the Gulf War's end in 1991, marking the February 26th expulsion of Iraqi forces following Operation Desert Storm. The 1990–91 occupation lasted seven months, during which the Central Bank's own reserves and records were looted — Iraqi forces removed an estimated $1 billion in Kuwaiti currency and bullion.
