| Obverse description | Central silver-finish field displays a raised relief map of Kuwait occupying the centre, encircled by a ring of stylised foliate motifs radiating outward. A bilingual commemorative legend curves around the inner border in Arabic above and Latin below, reading the 45th anniversary of the National Day of the State of Kuwait. The broad gilt outer border is decorated with an olive-branch wreath in high relief, with the Arabic legend 'دولة الكويت' (State of Kuwait) arching along the upper rim and 'STATE OF KUWAIT' along the lower rim. |

Kuwait's National Day commemoratives have been issued with some regularity, but the 45th anniversary in 2006 fell on a politically charged milestone — the first National Day celebrated following the death of Emir Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah in January of that year, making the issue a de facto transitional piece issued under Emir Sabah Al-Ahmad. The gilt-on-silver format was a deliberate cost decision, allowing a large-format 55mm piece without the expense of solid gold at that diameter and weight.
