| Beschrijving voorzijde | The denomination numeral '25' dominates the central field in large raised characters, with the word 'COLONES' inscribed below in a bold serif legend. A circular inner ring frames the central design, flanked by small decorative dots and rectangular ornaments at the lower left and right. The legend 'REPÚBLICA DE COSTA RICA' curves along the outer border, while the secondary inscription 'BANCO CENTRAL DE COSTA RICA' appears in a smaller legend just within the inner ring at the upper portion of the field. The overall design is rendered in a polished nickel brass finish with a dark-toned field providing strong contrast to the raised lettering. |

Puntarenas — Costa Rica's main Pacific port — was once the country's commercial lifeline before the Atlantic railroad opened in 1890 and shifted trade eastward. The Banco Central's regional series, of which this is a part, began as a policy initiative to promote provincial identity through everyday circulation currency rather than commemorative issues. Colourization on circulating coinage from Central American mints remains relatively uncommon at this weight class.
